Microtaggant® Identification Particles for Covert Authentication and Traceability
Microtaggant® Identification Particles are microscopic, multi-layered particles encoded with numeric sequences. Each particle functions like a fingerprint for your product, providing a unique, verifiable identity that can represent batch, origin, or production time.
Engineered for real-world conditions, Microtaggants are chemically and thermally robust, cost-effective at scale, and compatible with diverse materials and manufacturing processes. Optional enhancements including UV, IR, or magnetic responses support rapid detection and layered security.
How It Works
Each Microtaggant particle is built from color-coded layers arranged in a fixed sequence, creating a unique code exclusive to your product or application. The brand defines how these codes are used and interpreted.
Optional enhancements, including UV fluorescence, IR absorption, or magnetic components can be added to support specific detection methods or provide additional authentication layers.
Detection & Verification
Authentication is rapid and non-destructive. Microtaggants are detected using simple, low-cost tools including:
- Optical microscopes for code reading
- UV light sources for fluorescence screening
- IR laser pens for covert detection
- Magnetic detectors if magnetic component is added
This flexibility enables validation in the field, at the point of manufacture, or in a forensic lab, depending on security requirements.
Proven Applications
Microtaggants are used to:
- Authenticate products with low-cost detectors
- Identify counterfeits and diverted product
- Detect unauthorized contract manufacturer overruns
- Resolve false liability or warranty disputes
- Confirm production time and location
Seamless Integration
Microtaggants are available in sizes from 20 to 1,200 microns and can be incorporated into:
- Plastics like ABS, acrylic, polypropylene, polyethylene, polystyrene, polycarbonate, and PEEK
- Bulk materials in liquid, solid, OR particle form
- Security inks
- Synthetic papers like PPG TESLIN®
- Security yarns and textiles
- Explosives
Microtaggants are chemically compatible with a wide range of bulk materials and maintain both structural integrity and code readability through processes such as extrusion, molding, and coating. They remain thermally stable up to 350°C during extended exposure.
